Angelina Marinelli
Final project
The Beginning of the End
For my departing piece from both Dawson and the Studio Arts department, I wanted to challenge myself by making my largest painting to date. The Beginning of the End, made with acrylic on canvas (30x40 in), modeling paste, and artificial flowers, depicts a female demon perched on a throne surrounded by flowers, with her wings looming over her and the sky behind her slowly transitioning from a natural blue to a hellish red. Framing the bottom of the canvas are artificial flowers, which are meant to be seen as an extension of the flowers painted on the canvas. Inspired by our exhibit’s themes of spirits, fairies, and nature, I wanted to mix the fantastic and the natural into my final piece. I also have an interest in the fantasy genre and figure drawing, therefore, I wanted my graduating piece to showcase both of my favorite art-making genres.
